P0535 A/C evaporator temperature sensor: circuit fault
P0535 means: A/C evaporator temperature sensor: circuit fault. The computer controls the air conditioning compressor and monitors refrigerant pressure. OK to drive, but have it checked soon. The repair usually costs about €40–250 in Estonia. The most common cause: connector loose, damp or corroded. Other possible causes: wire broken or chafed, faulty sensor or relay.
What it means
The computer controls the air conditioning compressor and monitors refrigerant pressure. The A/C may not cool, but this doesn't harm the engine. The computer found a fault in the electrical circuit: the part, a wire, a connector or a fuse.
What you may notice
- A/C doesn't cool
- Compressor doesn't engage
- Engine light may be on
What could be wrong
- 1Connector loose, damp or corroded
- 2Wire broken or chafed
- 3Faulty sensor or relay
- 4Engine computer fault (rare)
Repair difficulty: Moderate
What you can check yourself
First look at the connector and wiring: anything loose, melted or green with corrosion? Listen for the compressor clicking on when you switch on the A/C. If it hasn't been serviced for years, the refrigerant may be low. You can check the simple things yourself, but the repair is best done in a workshop.
How we fix it
- We read the fault data on the diagnostic tool and check whether the fault is constant
- We measure the circuit's supply, ground and signal
- We repair the wire or replace the connector
- If the wiring is fine, we replace the sensor or relay
